Nonclinical Senior Director, Global Medical Leader
Bench International has been retained exclusively by a biopharmaceutical company committed to improving the lives of people with cancer to identify qualified candidates for consideration for the role of Senior Director, Global Medical Leader. Reporting to the Vice President, Medical and Scientific Affairs, this position will be based in northern California.
The Senior Director, Global Medical Leader will play a key role in bringing a lead product to market and in future driving the brand globally. The incumbent will ensure alignment of all medical strategy and supportive tactics, and maintain a strategic view of the team’s work ensuring plans are aligned with and supportive of overall Medical and Scientific Affairs (MedSA), commercial and corporate goals and strategic objectives. S/he will provide input and support in developing commercial strategies and demonstrate strategic thinking by anticipating future obstacles, risks and business opportunities, proactively taking action to address the foregoing by creating strategies, tactics and contingency plans. Additional representative responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Operationalize investigatory study programs; take on life cycle management studies.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with key medical experts, researchers and academic institutions within the multiple myeloma disease area; develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with KOLs and thought leaders.
Develop strategies and plans for research and ensure an appropriate balance with respect to commercial and research objectives. Oversee integration of Medical Affairs objectives with those of Clinical Development and Commercial Operations to ensure programs meet the needs of all constituents.
When appropriate, develop or participate in the review of study concepts, protocols, reports and statistical analysis plans and/or organize or participate in advisory board and investigator meetings.
Effectively interact and collaborate at all levels in the organization, including effective interface at the senior management level. Actively participate in internal and external training initiatives.
Provide input to product labeling and participate in the review and approval process of promotional and educational materials; provide medical and scientific expertise to core business strategy and marketing and business development plans; provide medical support for Managed Care initiatives, including presentations to Formulary Boards and decision makers.
Provide functional area expertise into the brand and life cycle planning; monitor the competitive environment; provide functional area oversight to ensure quality of work and appropriate compliance; and represent the functional area collaboratively with development, legal, regulatory and commercial groups.
Synthesize medical/scientific information to form conclusions and interpretations as input into development and commercial strategies; demonstrate sound judgment in balancing the needs of MedSA and the commercial group to select the best course of action based on available and relevant information; translate MedSA and commercial strategies into challenging, actionable objectives for the functional area team.
M.D. degree, with Board Certification / Eligibility in Hematology or Oncology is required, as is direct experience working in Hematology or Oncology.
Industry experience is a plus, but not required; experience in Multiple Myeloma is preferred.
Demonstrated fluency in the fundamental underpinnings of cancer biology, therapeutic and supportive care medicines, clinical trial design and execution, prescription drug coverage and reimbursement, patient advocacy and the implications of these concepts and practices on the business.
Customer focused with an understanding of government and industry guidelines and U.S. healthcare landscape (managed markets, emergence of evidence based medicine, current regulatory environment, etc.) for appropriate scientific and medical exchange and communication with customers.
Scientific rigor, commercial mindset, enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit; ability to chart course and deliver results.
Ability to create and maintain an effective and collaborative KOL and investigator network.
Understand changes in Federal and state legislation and how it will impact regulation, delivery and reimbursement of health care products and services.
